Let me tell you all a story about this lady I met who taught me a lesson about staying true to yourself.
Once upon at time, I knew a lady who when I first met had no track record of success in business at all. When she did good I celebrated her in private and i celebrated her in public.
On the flip side, when she slacked I called her and spoke to her in private about her lack of discipline. As time went on, her confidence and business sense rose like a bushel of red roses. It was wonderful. She even confided in me with all the people and the things that she found fault in within the business(some valid and others invalid) which was also great because that's how good business works. Communication is essential. Until eventually she began to develop the fear of success syndrome. She became really negative, really rude, unreliable, and unavailable even towards her own teammates. This was around the time she even began not taking calls and not responding to emails and text messages which i have documented for a story that I will someday tell to help others.
Because this is not my first time around the rodeo I have no animosity towards her at all. I would send her cards and small gifts for her small accomplishments and she wouldn't even say thank you. I have helped her in ways only her and I know of and no thank you or sign of appreciation at all. I still help her in spite of herself. Because this isn't my first time around the rodeo I kept a record of all conversations when things began to change. You may be asking yourself why do I still help her till this day? It's a simple answer that any successful business owner will tell you. A business doesn't thrive on personal issues. A business can be destroyed because of personal issues but it can not thrive with personal issues. My point is that in life you can not control how other people change. What you can do is continue to be true to yourself.
What can we learn from this? We can learn that success is a inside job and sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war. The power of staying true to yourself is real. You never know what people are going through or have came through. In closing, even when it is not the easy choice remember these words: "STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF"
